Gecarcinus quadratus is one of the best-selling crabs in the pet sector, due to its ease of management, resistance and less stress when handling than other tropical varieties; comes from Ecuador and has a varied omnivorous diet.
DIMENSIONS: M about 7 cm carapace; maximum dimensions about 10 cm (carapace)
ORIGIN: Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru
ENVIROMENTAL VALUES: constant temperature 24 ° -26 ° C during the day, humidity 70-80%
DIET: omnivores / scavengers, they accept vegetables, fruit and raw fish, while offering a constant variability of food. Give calcium once a week
RECOMMENDED SET-UP: minimum terrarium 60x40x40 cm, substrate triple the height of the animal, with fine coir and sphagnum, with 10% coir chips and numerous hiding places. The brackish aquatic part is less than the emerged one, where these crabs stay most of the time. A bowl with fresh water must always be present.
HABITS: Particularly docile and resistant, with a nocturnal character
AGGRESSIVITY: 1 - very low, docile but, if necessary, they can pinch with the greater claw if very stressed
