Dynastes hercules occidentalis or hercules beetle is one of the largest insects in the world, reaching up to 15 cm in length; it is also considered a great lucky charm in Japanese culture

DIMENSIONS: 14/15 cm length adult form

ORIGIN: South America

AMBIENT VALUES: temperature 25 ° -26 ° C daytime, 22 ° C nighttime humidity 40-50%

DIET: omnivorous, it feeds on organic material, jellypots and easily assimilable material

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT: terrarium or faunabox 30x30x30 or even larger, substrate about 15 cm high with peat and coconut fiber, mixture with foliage and plant debris that will especially support the larva in the development stage. There must also be a bowl with water and one for food, not too high to allow the beetle to be able to access it even with its long horn (in the adult phase). The female spends a large part in the substrate while the male wanders around the terrarium on the branches.

HABITS: terricolous, typical of the subtropical undergrowth environments

AGGRESSIVITY: 0 - low, very suitable for beginners

RAPID GROWTH: low, about 36 months for the development of the larva;

STATUS CITES: no

CLINICAL / TOXICOLOGICAL INFO: WCH ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY; AUSTRALIA
