Single specimen
European variety
For bioactive terraries 50-60% moisture, 1.5 cm maximum size
Great for small saurians and amphibians
The best source of calcium among all meal bugs!!
DIMENSIONS: 1.5 cm max
SOURCE: United Kingdom, Italy, France and other temperate zones in Europe
AMBIENTAMENT VALUES: temperature 18-23 degrees Celsius, humidity 50-60% with optimal ventilation
ALIMENTATION: debris and remnants of food and small microfauna in the substrate, dead wood, foliage; occasionally they accept apple or banana or jellypot as supplementation or isopod-specific feed making sure there is no decomposing food residue. important integration of calcium with pure dust or cuttlefish bone, the latter whole
TIP SET UP: terrarium or faunabox 20x20x20 or 30x30x30, substrate 5/6 cm peat and/or coconut fiber and a natural shelter such as a trunk or cork bark. Spray once a week to keep moisture constant and promote further hydration from the foliage. These isopods love different areas within the box, so you have to expect a dry part and a slightly wetter part. This type of insects are appreciated for feeding small animals (Dendrobates, Various Anuri, Chameleons) although the high cost makes them more suitable as ornamental isopods
They are also excellent scavengers for subtropical and tropical terrariums, thus eliminating mold and/or mites
ABITUDINI: ditch isopode, finds refuge under cork trunks or bark, moss and sleaw
AGGRESSIVITA: 0 - non-existent
GROWTH RAPIDIITY: average, about 6 months from the time of first hatching
STATUS CITES: n.d.
